Casual Outing

Date: 21 September 2009

A day trip arranged by Javen. He was back from Indonesia for a week's break. Participants include Javen, Han Yuen, Ka Chyi, Lee Min, Esther, Tin and myself. We went in 2 cars. Started our journey from KL at around 9.30am and we reached Malacca at around 12pm. The amount of cars and people was amazing as it was the Hari Raya holiday.

We parked our cars near to Tan Kim Hock and walked our way to have lunch. Our primary target is of course, the famous chicken rice in Malacca. Although there are many chicken rice shops in Malacca, the gang has already decided which shop to go to even before we reached Malacca. We chose 和记 ("he ji") which is located along Jonker Street, which became famous after it got reviewed by 阿贤 ("A Xian") from Astro...or was it because it was famous that's why they were interviewed...anyway the food was good *thumbs up*

Anyway, as expected, we saw a long queue outside of the shop. We waited in the line. Approximate 40 minutes later we were served.

Before the food is served, group photos first, excluding me of course.

Now, Time for the food!!!! I didn't manage to snap a photos of the vege and the Asam Fish Head curry we ordered. Next time!!

After our main meal, dessert is next. We decided to try out the claim-to-be-the-best cendol in Malacca. The shop (or rather a "stall") is located along Jonker Street as well, along the same row of shops and a few steps away from 和记 ("he ji").

I had my first ever durian cendol in my lifetime and it ain't bad at all, in fact it was good.

Everyone is all energized after the delicious meal. What else to do? though old-fashioned, the A'famosa  Fort, St. Paul Church and the Stadthuys (aka the Red House) are must-visit places in Malacca.

St. Paul Church

Didn't manage to snap any photos of A'Famosa but I do have a group photo (I mean GROUP photo with everyone in it...finally) in front of the Stadthuys.

After such a long walk...we actually walked to Pahlawan Mall as well as we didn't know what else to do while waiting to have dinner. It's finally time to go queue up for our dinner at 4.30pm. Queue up? 4.30pm? Yes you read it correctly and this isn't a typo. We wanted to try the Satay Celup - it's actually steamboat, but the soup is replaced by satay sauce. This is another must-try food here in Malacca.

OK, we reach the shop at 4.30pm. The door was still closed and it shows on the signboard that it opens only 5pm daily. However, look at the queue. It's just crazy. We're at the left most of the photo. Luckily we came early as the queue got longer and longer as time goes by. We finally got our turn to get in at around 5.30pm. Freaking 1 hour of queue.

Here comes the food.....as well as the people with food

After dinner it's time to head to Menara Taming Sari. It is kinda like an observatory deck, going up high while revolving so that you can have a view over Malacca city.

While walking over I was able to captured what we would later call it "The Photo Of The Day". Sorry to those who are currently eating. Also a big apologies to the cat for invading his privacy

It was another queue to get into the observary deck. It cost us RM10 each. The view was pretty spectacular from the top.  We got to see the "Eye on Malaysia", Pahlawan shopping mall as well as the Malacca straits and city from the top. I didn't manage to capture a group photo there. Individual photos can be viewed in my flickr album.

We wanted to go to Eye on Malaysia after this but we were tired so we dropped the idea. On our way leaving Malacca we wanted to try out the famous pork-oil-popiah but it was closed. Couldn't be blame as it was already 9+pm.

A big thank you to everyone by making this a really enjoyable trip.

Lastly, here are some photos I took while walking around. I believe these are views that people won't pay attention to but these are also the view which makes Malacca the famous historic city in Malaysia, indirectly. It's all part of the history.
